Soon after Baena’s death Ms Plaza’s management team released a statement asking for privacy following the “unimaginable tragedy”.
“We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time.”
In the months after their separation Baena’s behaviour had become more erratic and his contact with Ms Plaza reportedly led her to call for a welfare check on him in October, 2024.
The ME’s report stated that Mr Baena began attending therapy and that he had not attempted suicide previously.
Mr Baena, 47, was found in his home by a dog walker who noticed very loud music coming from the residence.
The pair were married in interesting circumstances during the COVID lockdowns as she explained on the Ellen DGerenes show in 2021.
“Yes, we got married. Big deal,” Plaza recalled.
“We were in the lockdown. Things got a little crazy, especially in my house. My husband got really into tie-dying and when I say tie-dying, I mean 50 shirts a day.”
Plaza made her first public appearance since Baena’s passing at the SNL 50 anniversary special in February and introduced Miley Cyrus and Brittany Howard’s joint musical performance.
