David Beckham has broken his silence after his son, Brooklyn Beckham, posted a brutal rant on social media, accusing his parents of press manipulation and derailing his wedding day.

Speaking on CNBC’s financial program Squawk Box on Tuesday (local time), the former football star ironically discussed the dangers of social media.

“I have always spoken about social media and the power of social media. For the good and for the bad,” David said.

“The bad we’ve talked about with what the kid can access these days, it can be dangerous, but what I have found personally, especially with my kids as well, use it for the right reasons.

“I’ve been able to use my platform and my following for UNICEF and it’s been the biggest tool to make people aware of what’s going on around the world for children.”

The father-of-four went on to say that his children have made “mistakes” on social media.

“I’ve tried to do the same with my children, to educate them. They make mistakes, but children are allowed to make mistakes. That is how they learn. That is what I try to teach my kids. You sometimes have to let them make those mistakes as well.”

Earlier on Tuesday, David dodged questions about his estranged son while attending the World Economic Forum’s 56th Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, in what was his first public appearance since Brooklyn launched his blistering attack.

“David, do you have a message for Brooklyn this morning?” Sky News reporter Paul Kelso shouted at David as he walked out of a meeting room.

“David, are you disappointed family business is being aired in public?”

The football champion ignored the question and did not comment on the family rift.

What did Brooklyn Beckham say about his parents?

It comes only a day after Brooklyn made an explosive statement on family tensions, unleashing in a series of detailed Instagram Stories, claiming his parents have relentlessly tried to destroy his marriage through media leaks and sabotage.

“I have been silent for years and have made every attempt to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed,” Brooklyn wrote in the first of a series of Instagram Stories posts.

“I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”

He detailed alleged incidents, including his 2022 wedding and his father’s 50th birthday last year, where family priorities clashed with his relationship.

The outburst follows reports of rifts, including family members blocking each other on social media, and the Peltz-Beckhams skipping “Brand Beckham” events, such as Christmas gatherings.

Brooklyn criticised his family’s priorities: “My family values public promotion and endorsements above all else. Brand Beckham comes first. Family ‘love’ is decided by how much you post on social media, or how quickly you drop everything to show up and pose for a family photo opp, even if it’s at the expense of our professional obligations.”

“We’ve gone out of our way for years to show up and support at every fashion show, every party, and every press activity to show ‘our perfect family’. But the one time my wife asked for my mum’s support to save displaced dogs during the LA fires, my mum refused.

“I have been controlled by my parents for most of my life. I grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared,” Brooklyn continued.

“I wake up every morning grateful for the life I chose, and I have found peace and relief.”

Victoria ‘hijacked’ dance at Brooklyn’s wedding

Brooklyn also confirmed long-running rumours that tensions peaked at his Palm Beach wedding to wife Nicola Peltz, saying Victoria hijacked his first dance.

“In front of our 500 wedding guests, Marc Anthony called me to the stage, where in the schedule was planned to be my romantic dance with my wife but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead. She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone,” he said.

“I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.”

He added claims that Victoria refused to make Nicola’s dress last-minute, and the family dismissed her as “not blood” and “not family”.

Victoria is yet to comment on the social media torching.
