Chris Martin takes a tumble into a hole in the stage.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has fallen through a stage trapdoor while performing in Australia.

The 47-year-old could be seen chatting to fans in the crowd at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium on the final date of his band’s Music Of The Spheres tour on Sunday, before plummeting through the hidden door backwards, in footage posted to social media.

After the incident, Martin can be heard telling fans “That’s not planned”.

Martin thanked a member of production staff for catching him as he fell, adding: “Holy s***, that was nearly a YouTube moment.”

The Yellow singer continued with the show following the incident and appeared unharmed.

It comes after the band secured the biggest opening week for a UK act in the last three years with their 10th studio album Moon Music last month.

The album became the band’s 10th consecutive chart-topper after it achieved 237,000 UK chart units.

The London-formed group are now level with Abba, Michael Jackson and Queen, all having 10 number-one albums apiece.

Their previous number-one LPs include 2000’s Parachutes, 2002’s A Rush Of Blood To The Head, 2005’s X&Y, 2008’s Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, 2011’s Mylo Xyloto, 2014’s Ghost Stories, 2015’s A Head Full Of Dreams, 2019’s Everyday Life and 2021’s Music Of The Spheres.

Coldplay and Chris Martin have been contacted for comment.
