“As far as Eon is concerned, Aaron is going to sign his contract in the coming days and they can start preparing for the big announcement.”
The next film in the Bond franchise is set to start production this year after being delayed due to last year’s Hollywood writers’ strikes.
It’s believed Taylor-Johnson beat the likes of Oscar-winning Cillian Murphy, Idris Elba, Henry Cavill and James Norton for the role.
The 33-year-old, best known for his portrayal as the lead character in Kick-Ass and Marvel character Pietro Maximoff in Avengers: Age of Ultron, reportedly told media last week about how he felt stepping into Bond’s shoes.
“I find it charming and wonderful that people see me in that role. I take it as a great compliment,” he said.
Taylor-Johnson’s acting career kicked off in the 2000s with The Apocalypse alongside Richard Harris.
He has also appeared in the 2008 teenage heartthrob movie Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging and Bullet Train with Brad Pitt in 2022.
Insiders also told The Sun the British star’s Golden Globe win for best-supporting actor in the 2016 thriller Nocturnal Animals helped him get the role.
“Aaron may not be the best known in his field but he is an incredibly talented actor. His role in Nocturnal Animals showed his depth as an actor. He is the perfect person to play Bond and will pick up well from where Daniel left off.”
The iconic spy series ended with a mind-blowing finale No Time To Die in which Bond was seemingly killed so it will be interesting to see what narrative is played out in the next film and where Taylor-Johnson will reportedly take the character.
