The 2003 film is set for a revival with a sequel reportedly in the works.

How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is set to get a sequel, more than two decades after the original was released.

The second film is being developed at Paramount and Kate Hudson is set to produce, Variety reported.

Hudson will be joined by Stacy Sher in the producer chair, who has been behind Erin Brockovich, Pulp Fiction, and Django Unchained.

While still in its early stages, the filmmakers are reportedly hoping to have Hudson and co-star Matthew McConaughey reprise their roles of Andie Anderson and Benjamin Barry.

The beloved rom-com classic was released in 2003 and follows Andie as she tries to write a magazine column with all the tips and tricks to drive a man away in 10 days.

At the same time, Ben is trying to win a bet with his boss that he can get any girl to fall in love with him in 10 days.

The film was directed by Donald Petrie and starred Kathryn Hahn, Adam Goldberg, Thomas Lennon, Michael Michele and Shalom Harlow.

While the plot remains under wraps for the sequel, fans are nervous about the reboot of a film so iconic.

On Variety’s Instagram post which broke the news, one commenter wrote, “Leave good things alone please”.

“We’re in sequel purgatory,” wrote another.

The reboot comes amid a wave of revivals being released in cinemas.

There was The Devil Wears Prada 2 and Toy Story 5; with Practical Magic 2, Focker-in-Law, and Shrek 5 still to come later this year.

The announcement comes after McConaughey recently revealed that How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days was the gift that keeps on giving.

“I think it’s probably my favourite rom-com I’ve done and a lot of people love that rom-com,” he told the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

“It still pays the best ‘mailbox money’ of any film I’ve ever done by far.

“When (home video) used to be just DVDs or cable (instead of streaming or VOD), every March I’d get a big check because of Valentine’s Day.”

On a $US50 million budget ($A69.88 million), the film grossed almost $US180 million ($A251.65 million) worldwide.
