Jaswinder Bhalla: Outpouring of grief after Bollywood star dies from stroke during health battle

There has been an outpouring of grief after one of India’s most beloved comedian/actors has died after battling illness for the last few months.

Hugely popular Punjabi star Jaswinder Bhalla, 65, died on Friday after social media posts showed him in the last throws of life at the Fortis Hospital in Mohali after suffering stroke on Wednesday.

Bhalla was a stalwart of Indian cinema who captivated the massive Bollywood audiences aroud the globe with his down-to-earth charm and brilliant comedic timing.

Renowned for performances in movies such as Gaddi Chaldi Hai Chhalla Maarke, Carry On Jatta, Jind Jaan, and ‘Band Baaje’, he will be sorely missed.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said on X “the sudden departure of Jaswinder Bhalla Ji from this world is extremely sorrowful.. The heart is saddened by the silence of the jingle of Chhankatian... May Waheguru grant him a place at His feet Chacha Chatra will always reside in our hearts (sic),” his translated read.

“He was a lively person”.

Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan also expressed his sorrow, noting that Bhalla was a gifted comedian who brought joy and laughter to many with his craft.
