Jennifer Lopez has officially filed for divorce from husband Ben Affleck, marking the end of their near two-year marriage.

Lopez and Affleck tied the knot in Las Vagas on July 16, 2022, before holding a much grander ceremony in Georgia.

The Jenny from the Block star chose to submit the papers on Tuesday — exactly two years after the couple’s traditional ceremony in Georgia.

According to TMZ, Lopez filed the legal documents herself, without the aid of an attorney, in Los Angeles County Superior Court, indicating she will represent herself in the proceedings.

The date of separation is listed as April 26, 2024.

From the paperwork filed, it is understood that the couple did not have a prenuptial agreement.

The lack of a prenup may prove a significant issue for both stars who have significant individual fortunes and prior marriages—this being Lopez’s fourth and Affleck’s second.

Lopez is said to have a net worth of about $US400m ($590m). Meanwhile, it’s estimated that Affleck has a net worth of $US150m ($220m).

Any earnings or assets acquired during their marriage, such as Affleck’s recent projects “Air” and “Hypnotic” and Lopez’s projects like “Shotgun Wedding” and “The Mother,” could be considered community property and subject to division.

“Bennifer”, the term used to describe the relationship between Lopez and Affleck was used when the couple first dated in 2002 until their first split in 2004.

During those two years were engaged. Although they parted ways before tying the knot, they remained friends over the years.

“Bennifer 2.0” swept the world in early 2021, when the couple reignited their romance and eventually married in 2022.

The news comes after “Bennifer 2.0” listed their $100m Beverly Hills home just a year after purchasing it.

The couple is understood to be in an ongoing dispute over the settlement, with TMZ reporting the now-former couple are “not even speaking to each other”.
