Kyle Sandilands labels KIIS FM replacement Dr Chris Brown ‘vanilla’, slams ARN and ‘woke’ rebrand

Kyle Sandilands has reacted to KIIS FM’s newly-announced breakfast hosts, offering pointed commentary about the trio stepping into the role once shared by the shock jock and former co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson.

ARN confirmed on Monday Dr Chris Brown, Amy Gerard and Jack Charles will host KIIS FM’s Sydney breakfast show from November 9 following months-long speculation over who would take over the prime slot.

The segment was left vacant after a bitter bust-up between Sandilands and Henderson saw the show collapse and a fiery legal feud erupt.

In an appearance on his new subscription network, Kyle Sandilands Live, Sandilands was asked by newsreader and journalist Mary Madigan if he “felt smug” after “guessing” the new hosts.

“Are you feeling a bit smug today, Kyle, because you – well, I feel like you guessed – got it right for the KIIS line-up,” Madigan asked on Tuesday’s broadcast, according to news.com.au.

“You were right, Dr Chris Brown.”

Sandilands replied: “I was always right.”

Although the radio heavy weight admitted he didn’t have a close relationship with Brown, he still offered his two cents, saying the TV presenter was a bit “vanilla”.

“I don’t know Chris well, but I’ve met him. He’s a bit vanilla, but you know, that’s alright,” Sandilands said.

“Amy, I think she’s a fun girl, I think she does a great job, and I don’t know the other chap, but I’m sure if he’s been on with Chrissy Swan for a while, he’ll know, he’ll know what’s what.”

Despite the pointed jabs, Sandilands offered his well wishes to the trio as they embark on their new gig.

“Good luck to them, I hope they do their very best, because it’s not an easy gig,” Sandilands added.

But Sandilands didn’t have much nice to say about former employer ARN.

“You used to have the biggest radio brand. Now, you would arguably say you’re one of the worst,” he said.

“That, to me, equals boring as bats..t radio.”

The breakfast segment’s re brand to a light purple and white colour palette was also slammed by Sandilands after it was changed from the Kyle and Jackie O Show’s previous neon pink and purple colour scheme.

“Ugh, is that their new logo?” he asked as Madigan showed him a photo of the promo announcing the appointment.

“That’s an ugly, woke colour. It’s the wokeiest purple.”

In a statement spruiking the new line-up, ARN chief executive Michael Stephenson said the future of the breakfast slot was looking bright.

“This is a big moment for ARN and the future of KIIS Sydney. We’ve brought together big names and fresh new talent to create the best content for radio, video, social and in real life experiences,” he said.

“We have the biggest radio brand in the country, and we now have a team that is building something very special for listeners and creating big, new, integrated opportunities that brands will love.”
