Actor Joe Manganiello has shared graphic images documenting his ongoing health battle as he continues to recover from a mystery illness.
The Magic Mike star, 49, offered a confronting insight into his years-long health struggles in an Instagram post, revealing he lost a substantial amount of weight after he had surgery to remove his large intestine.
“In the days following the amputation of my large intestine, my weight began to plummet,” Manganiello’s caption read.

“If you zoom in, you can see the top of my first ostomy bag creeping up over the sheets.”
The first photo posted alongside the explanation showed Manganiello wired up to medical equipment in hospital.
“A shot of my abdomen after the reconnection/take down surgery or anastomosis, in which my ostomy bag was removed and what was left of my digestive tract was reconnected,” Manganiello wrote in reference to a gruesome photo of a puncture wound in his stomach.
The Spider-Man actor also revealed details about the skin condition he had endured throughout the illness, which he said lasted seven years.
“An example of the multitude of skin conditions I was plagued with during the seven years I was sick,” he added.
“My skin, an immune organ, was stricken with just about every condition known to man, usually in combination.”
Manganiello’s public health update comes after a bizarre voodoo theory emerged in his new memoir, Bloodlines, where he wrote about the mystery illness that attacked his thyroid, digestive system, skin, lungs, and eyes.
In the book, the actor recounts how a shaman allegedly told him his illness was the result of curse arranged by a man from his then-wife Sofia Vergara’s past who was still in love with her.
According to Manganiello, the shaman claimed the curse had been carried out in New Orleans and suggested he undergo a spiritual cleansing and protection ritual in Ecuador.
The actor said he was stunned by the shaman’s apparent knowledge of his medical problems.
“There were members of my close family who didn’t know any of that, let alone some random guy on the phone. I side-eyed Sofia with a look that was equal parts fear, anger and disbelief,” he wrote.
