Boosie, whose real name is Torrence Ivy Hatch Jr, also suggested the rapper’s death might be linked to an overdose, tweeting: “JUST GOT WORD @RichHomieQuan JUST OD ‼️”

Quan’s official cause of death has yet to be confirmed.

Podcaster Adam Grandmaison, known as Adam22, paid his respects by posting a heartfelt message on his Instagram Stories, featuring a photo of him and Quan with the caption: “RIP Rich Homie Quan.”

Further confirmation was later provided by TMZ which claimed to have obtained a recording of the 911 call from his girlfriend.

His family told the outlet he died on Thursday in his Atlanta home and described themselves as “shattered and heartbroken by his sudden death”.

Rich Homie Quan, born Dequantes Devontay Lamar in Atlanta, was a prominent figure in the music industry.

He first gained widespread recognition with his 2015 hit single Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh), which reached number 26 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

The platinum-selling rapper was also known for his work with Cash Money Records and his collaborations with other notable artists, including Young Thug on the Rich Gang project, as well as with 2 Chainz and Jacquees.

Despite his success, Quan had faced legal troubles related to drug use.

In May 2017, he was charged with felony drug possession with the intent to distribute.

However, the case was dismissed in 2019 due to insufficient evidence.

Rich Homie Quan’s last Instagram post, shared earlier this week to his 3.3 million followers, featured the rapper in a football jersey and eyeglasses, captioned: “Vision clear even through the BS.”
