The Duke would be open to a temporary role in the royal fold.

As rumours swirl around Prince Harry’s potential return to the royal family, a UK royal correspondent has revealed what the wayward heir to the throne would need to do to be welcomed back to the fold.

With King Charles reportedly unwell and both he and Catherine, Princess of Wales undergoing cancer treatment, the question remains — could Harry step in to help?

But Daily Mirror royal editor Russell Myers told Sunrise it was a “big question”.

“We’ve had quite a few days of headlines from Harry’s camp, and potentially the royals are hitting back at Harry wanting to come back into the royal fold,” he said on Thursday.

“But what I can tell you is if Prince William has his way, then there will be absolutely no chance. I’m told there is zero chance that Harry would be welcomed back into the fold in any capacity.”

He told hosts Nat and Shirvo that despite the royal family being stretched thin with the King and Princess of Wales’ respective health issues, Harry would need to atone for his actions over the past few years.

“Harry’s return would likely depend on his own willingness to show contrition,” Myers said.

“If Harry wanted a way back into the family, I think he needs a bit of contrition and some apologies coming the other way rather than to him.”

Addressing reports Harry had been in talks with old friends in the UK about a potential return, Myers noted: “It’s an interesting position he finds himself in because it hasn’t really gone to plan for Harry and Meghan over the last few years.

“They’ve had the Spotify deal failing for Meghan, the Netflix deal is in the balance, and they rely on these millions to come in to keep their lifestyle in California.”

Myers added that while Harry may want to repair relations with his family, his relationship with older brother Prince William remained a major obstacle.

“He definitely does want to repair relations with his family, especially since the King has been unwell in recent months, but his brother is the main sticking point.

“It will be very, very difficult if William has anything to do with it.”

When asked about Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s current endeavours, Myers said she was still focussed on building her lifestyle brand, though progress has been slow.

“Meghan’s got her irons in the fire in terms of her lifestyle brand. We heard there’s an issue with the copyright or the trademarks that she’s trying to create for American Riviera Orchard.

“This has launched with a big fanfare, but we haven’t seen the fruits of her labour with her jam-making capabilities at the moment.”

Myers speculated the couple’s media ventures may not be over, hinting at the possibility of more content in the future.

So far, they have unleashed on the royal family in an Oprah tell-all interview in 2021, a Netflix series and Harry’s memoir Spare.

“I still think that there will be another Netflix series in the offering. And will there be another book? Harry has said that he had more than enough material to write two books. I think the royal family would be very nervous if that was to happen.”
