Natalie Imbruglia on Prince Harry rumours: Torn singer addresses love life speculation

Natalie Imbruglia has broken her silence on being linked to controversial royal Prince Harry back during her heady days in the limelight during an interview with UK media.

The 51-year-old Torn singer mentioned the Duke of Sussex, who was briefly linked with the Aussie songstress after the pair were seen at a Killers concert in 2009, as she reflected on the differences of being single in her 50s.

“You only need to be seen with someone and that’s your boyfriend,” she told Metro UK’s 60 Seconds column.

“I think the Prince Harry thing could have been because he came to my birthday party with a friend who knew him.

“That’s all it takes. I’ve been linked to all and sundry.”

Back in 2016, she told OK! Magazine that it was her initial meeting with Harry at her birthday that led her to strike up a random conversation when they both saw each other at the performance by the Las Vegas rockers.

“I went to a Killers gig and he was side-stage so of course we said hello to each other. I just thought, ‘I’m in so much trouble tomorrow,’ because if you are in the same place as someone like that and they have been at your party it’s going to be a story,” she said.

But nowadays the interest in her love life was a vastly different situation, she told Metro.

“I would love them to write that about me now but you get to a certain age and they’re not. You’re not that person anymore,” she said.

“I’m still single but they’re not interested in who I’m going out with.”

Despite her single status, Imbruglia has been keeping busy - she gave birth to son Max in 2019, who she had via IVF treatment with sperm from an unknown donor.

While she has described Max’s arrival as “the best thing that ever happened to me”, she still noted the unexpected hardship of the process, particularly having to wait to find out if it was successful or not.

She told the How to Fail with Elizabeth Day podcast in June: “There’s a lot that I didn’t know or understand about that process and there’s a lot of trauma involved along the process of learning things that someone could have told me.”

“It’s the freefall that they don’t prepare you for. They don’t kind of wean you off of it. It’s just like ‘Sorry, it didn’t work’ and then stop,” she said.

When it came to waiting to find out if the treatment had worked, she said that when she finally got the thumbs up, “the one thing in my mind was every woman on the planet who was still waiting”.

Imbruglia is also continuing to record music in the UK. In fact, she is set to release her seventh studio album, Algorithm, on Friday.
