Oscar-nominated Aussie actor Guy Pearce quits social media after spreading ‘misinformation’ about Israel

Oscar-nominated Aussie actor Guy Pearce has made the decision to step away from social media after admitting he actively shared “misinformation and falsehoods” about Israel.
The Brutalist actor has been highly vocal about his support for Palestine, with now-deleted content on his X account claiming “the top three pornography companies are owned by Jewish people”, and that Israel was responsible for the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre.
However, in recent days, the 58-year-old has sensationally backflipped on his stance and admitted he was ill-informed.

“I am aware how sharing inaccurate content can cause confusion and distress; for this I am deeply sorry. I will certainly endeavour to be more diligent in future to verify anything I share online.”

Pearce also stood behind preachings of notorious American white nationalist Nick Fuentes, and shared rhetoric suggesting Charlie Kirk died after rejecting a cash offer from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu pushing him to be more supportive towards Israel.
In one of the actor’s most recent posts, the star made his contempt for “vile” Israel overtly apparent.
“I’ve never been so disgusted by a group of people in my life as I am by Israelis. Everyday I witness their utter disregard & disdain for Palestinian life. It is shameful & sets humanity further backwards with every vile act like this,” he wrote on November 21.
The actor has also drawn content from one Instagram account — which claims to be a fitness and nutrition-based channel — suggesting Jewish Zionists are behind major gambling institutions and prostitution.
He reposted: “Remember, when Zionists tell you Islam will destroy America… The top three pornography companies are owned by Jewish people. The top one being owned by a Rabbi.
“While several major Las Vegas casinos/hotels that have caused gambling addictions, debt and prostitution were created and owned by Jewish Zionists… The Zionists (not Jews) want you to fear the people who stand against the corruption they are creating.”
With Pearce’s X account now devoid of previously shared views, the Aussie doubled-down on his apology and provided reasoning for his forthcoming online absence.
“Earlier this week, I issued an apology for sharing misleading and inaccurate posts and commentary on social media,” Pearce shared.
“I meant every word of that apology but I recognise that meaningful action must accompany any apology. To prevent any further hurt, confusion or damage to others, I will be stepping back from social media for the time being.

Pearce has become a prolific face on screen both in Australia and abroad, getting his start on Aussie soap Neighbours in the late 80s.
His recent eyebrow-raising behaviour has not come entirely out of left field, seen at the AACTA Awards in February sporting a white brooch which featured the words “Free Palestine”.
