Former Farmer Wants a Wife contestant Claire Saunders had expected September to be filled with love, laughs and her wedding to Farmer Andrew Coleman.

But instead of being in Sydney for the big day, she remained at home in Tasmania with her unworn wedding dress hanging in the cupboard.

The former couple, who met on the 2023 season of the Channel 7 show, said the wedding had been postponed in July for “reasons out of our control”.

Coleman confirmed they had split in September, saying in a lengthy Instagram post that “life had other plans”.

Saunders has since detailed her side of the split along with the sobering realities of cancelling a wedding.

“It was booked so a lot them went to Sydney anyway,” she told WHO.

“They all bumped into each other at the airport. It was weird.”

“I was at home with the bridesmaids’ dresses and the cowboy boots we’d bought and then the wedding topper turned up in the post.”

Saunders said goodbye to not only her farmer but the life they had built on his farm in regional New South Wales.

She was so excited about their future together, the former reality star said she did not have “a plan B”.

Looking back on their split in July, she confirmed to the outlet that it was her decision to call off the wedding.

Coleman’s father was reportedly battling a serious illness at the time, something that significantly impacted her fiancé.

“You can’t make someone marry you,” she said, “He wanted some space so I went to Darwin for the dry season and the wheels really fell off after that.

“We’re not in contact now at all. It’s been a terrible time.”

It comes weeks after Coleman’s post explaining that two months after confirming the wedding had been postponed felt like “the right time to share what’s been happening”.

He said that several years ago he wished to share the farm life with “someone special” and later signed up for Farmer Wants a Wife.

“I never imagined meeting such an amazing group of women, each with their own spirit and story. It was exciting and humbling, reminding me of how important love and connection are,” he said in September.

“Amidst it all, one extraordinary woman captured my heart, and we decided to give it a shot.

“We moved in together, dreaming of a future where our love would grown alongside the farm. It was fast-paced, passionate and fun.

“But life had other plans.

“Despite all the love and effort we both gave, sometimes things just don’t work out.

“Living together brought its own challenges, and we realised our paths weren’t meant to stay intertwined.”

He said it was “sad” the relationship came to a close, but that they “gave it our all”.

“Though it didn’t lead us where we hoped, it helped us grow. It’s been a huge outlay of heart and soul. And while it’s painful to walk away, we’ve both emerged stronger, wiser, and more attuned to what really matters.”

The former couple announced their engagement in March 2023 after Saunders moved to Coleman’s Narromine farm in regional NSW.

After their engagement, Saudners and Coleman talked openly about starting a family and said they were keen to take their relationship to the next step.

“It would be nice to have twins first up and then see what would happen after that,” Claire said in March 2023.

“We’re approaching it with the mindset of, let’s enjoy one another first for a period of time and make memories of our own, and if things keep evolving in a positive manner, then that’ll come,” Andrew added.
