Nicolas Cage’s Malibu beach house damaged as sinkhole opens up
No injuries have been reported.
Part of Nicolas Cage’s $15.6 million Malibu beach house has collapsed into a sinkhole, believed to be caused by coastal erosion.
The Hollywood heavyweight purchased the Lechuza Beach home in 2024, with the exclusive neighbourhood also home to the likes of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Robert Downey Jr and Ellen DeGeneres.
About 5.45am on Tuesday local time, the Los Angeles County Fire and Sheriff’s departments were called out to the home after a huge sinkhole opened up in the driveway, believed to be caused by coastal erosion, according to KTLA.

“It doesn’t appear that anybody was home. As a matter of fact, the house looks like it is under some sort of renovation.”
No injuries have been reported.
In aerial video footage obtained by KABC, waves could be seen through the 9m-by-9m hole crashing onto rocks below the mansion.
It comes as the US National Weather Service issued high surf and coastal flood alerts along the Malibu coast, LA County beaches, Catalina and Santa Barbara islands and Ventura County beaches.
The alert warned that “significant beach erosion will occur” with “flooding of seawater likely”.
There were also reports of a suspected gas main break, according to the LA Times, and a City of Malibu spokesperson said authorities are “continuing to assess the situation to determine safety concerns for the surrounding area”.
Despite Cage primarily taking up residence in Las Vegas, Nevada, he has spent time at the Malibu abode enjoying the coastal lifestyle with his family.
The modern home features four bedrooms, a chef’s kitchen, a deck overlooking the beach, floor-to-ceiling glass walls and a two-car garage with its own lift.
Cage is an award-winning actor, whose accolades include an Oscar and Golden Globe for his role in the 1995 film Leaving Las Vegas.
His Prime Video series Spider-Noir, despite being an awards season favourite, has been cancelled.
