Taylor Momsen and Jim Carrey, who co-starred in the 2000 holiday film How the Grinch Stole Christmas, have reunited for the first time in 25 years at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.

Momsen has shared some of her fondest memories of filming with Carrey saying “I have a lot, honestly,” while speaking to People.

The now 32-year-old said: I just love that he was very protective of me. He was always very kind. And just the entire experience of filming Grinch and getting to know him so well, even in all the makeup, was just wonderful.”

Carrey, now 63, brought the infamous Dr Seuss character to life, while Momsen was only five when she played Cindy-Lou Who.

Reflecting on her childhood experience, she said, “As a young person watching an artist at work and taking their craft so seriously, that left a really powerful, lasting impact on me as an adult now. And I’m excited to be able to tell him that as a grownup.”

The actress and musician also opened up about what it was like working alongside Carrey, mentioning that his commitment to the role meant she rarely saw him out of character.

“To me, he was always Jim and he was always in makeup. He was very protective of me, very kind, super funny, super animated, absolutely awesome,” Momsen told Alex Cooper on a recent episode of Call Her Daddy.

“But the funny thing is I never knew what Jim Carrey looked like because I never saw him because he was there way early doing the prosthetics.”

She added, “I didn’t know who Jim was until the premiere and someone had to point him out to me and go, ‘That’s Jim.’ And I went, ‘Oh, Jim.’”

Asked why she thinks How the Grinch Stole Christmas continues to resonate with audiences, Momsen previously told the US Today Show in 2020, “I think that people love The Grinch just simply because the core of the story is so sweet and it’s so heartwarming and it has such a good message.”

She said, “That no matter what age touches your heart, I think that that’s an amazing thing to be a part of.”

Momsen also noted, “The fact that it comes back around every year — I think it’s something to look forward to. And I think it just kinda brings happiness and joy to anyone who watches it.”

For his part, Carrey expressed gratitude for the film’s enduring legacy, telling Extra in December 2024 that he was “so gratified” The Grinch remains a holiday favourite. “When it pops up every year, I’m really happy about it,” he said.
