Scale said there were few details of his passing, but that Eadie had been suffering from ill health for some time and was recently diagnosed with diabetes.
A graduate of the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA), Eadie starred as Constable Sam Phillips in Cop Shop in his breakout role, before moving on to roles in A Country Practice and The Man from Snowy River II.
Eadie also appeared in dozens of major theatre productions including Cat on a Hot Tim Roof, The Crucible and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Among those paying tribute were Eadie’s fellow actors.
“Bon voyage Nicholas Eadie. An actor thrumming with savvy truth, dangerous wit; a thrilling artist,” Australian stage star and Boy Swallows Universe actor Toby Schmitz posted to X.
“A great actor, who I got to work with a number of times. One of life’s best scallywags. Bit shocked,” TV star and former Play School host Rhys Muldoon said.
Eadie’s last credited screen role was in the 2011 television film Underbelly Files: The Man Who Got Away.
A NIDA alumni group paid tribute to Eadie, calling him a “powerhouse”.
“Very sad to have to announce the passing of one of our 1978-80 cohort,” they posted on Facebook.
Fellow alumni expressed their shock at his death, sharing stories of his acting days.
“This is terrible news, such a fantastic actor, and was always lovely,” one fellow alumni said.
“Lovely man, lovely actor and a wickedly wild friend, one of the best. I’m shocked.”
