A special bulletin will be broadcast across 7NEWS and 7plus covering the latest updates on the unfolding conflict in Iran and the Middle East.

The United States and Israel attacked Iran on Saturday under Operation Epic Fury, targeting the nation’s top leaders and calling for the overthrow of its government.

Among the hundreds suspected dead in Iran is the country’s 86-year-old Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, bringing an end to more than three-decades of rule marred by the brutal oppression of anyone opposing him.

Iranian state-run media outlets confirmed the despot had died about 5am, just after revealing his daughter, grandchild, daughter-in-law and son-in-law were also killed.

The death toll across the Middle East is expected to rise, with fatalities in Abu Dhabi and Tel Aviv also being confirmed by local authorities.

The attacks have sparked retaliatory strikes on the Israeli city of Tel Aviv, where 7NEWS Chief Reporter Chris Reason has been reporting live as the situation continues to shift.
