We’re so used to hearing Catherine Zeta-Jones playing roles with an American accent, it comes as something of a shock to hear her adapt her natural Swansea Welsh accent in this new crime drama, which sees her front-and-centre playing a woman on the run.

Zeta-Jones plays Jackie Price, a (very Welsh-sounding) ex-cocaine smuggler turned high art dealer, who is dragged back into the underworld after she unwittingly ends up on a kill list.

She’s being hunted down by a crack team of assassins, who go by the name The Seven Demons — Jackie’s going to have to have her wits about her as she leaves behind her old life and tries to stay one step ahead of their deadly cat-and-mouse game (all while wearing fabulous couture, might we add!)

“Assuming someone from her past is behind it, Jackie unleashes her old instincts and embarks on a wild, dangerous game plan: to take down The Demons one by one before they kill her,” reads an official logline, and excuse us while we squeal with excitement.

This propulsive series, based on Aidan Truhen’s novel The Price You Pay takes a few liberties. For a start, Zeta-Jones’character is a man in the book, but in this she’s a kick-ass middle-aged female antihero who has absolutely no time for anyone’s BS — and we are so there for it.

It’s been such a long time since we’ve seen Zeta-Jones in a lead role for TV — this series, part Killing Eve, part Slow Horses, part Bond, is the perfect vehicle for her return, reminding us she’s still one of the UK’s most exciting acting exports.

You’re going to adore this series — don’t miss a second of it.

Crime Night

Wednesday, 8.30pm, ABC

Julia Zemiro is back getting her Agatha Christie on , as the second season of this ABC favourite returns. Criminologists Danielle Reynald and David Bartlett are returning, along with a host of comedians and performers, who explore the world of crime, discovering the science and psychology behind some famously grizzly cases. This one’s for anyone who loves a true crime podcast. Read: Everyone!

War

Thursday, streaming on HBO Max

Sienna Miller and Dominic West star as a high-profile couple in the midst of a bitter divorce in the first season of this planned anthology series, which focuses on the people who work at the rival law firms going into battle. This is about to become your new favourite — think Succession meets Suits — and the show’s getting so much buzz, it’s already been greenlit for a second season. Get excited!

Scrubs

Thursday, streaming on Disney Plus

Scrubs is back again … again! The second season of the rebooted medical sitcom, which returned to screens after a 16-year hiatus, sees our favourites back in their scrubs. This time, though, Dr Cox (John C. McGinley), is at Sacred Heart as a patient — it’s up to J.D. (Zach Braff) to figure out what’s going on with his illness. No pressure! This show is a delight to revisit.

East Of Eden

Thursday, streaming on Netflix

Zoe Kazan is bringing this adaptation of John Steinbeck’s famous novel to the small screen. She has a personal connection to the work — her grandfather was Oscar-winning filmmaker Elia Kazan, who directed the 1955 film adaptation starring James Dean. This one sees Florence Pugh taking centre stage, playing the role of Cathy Ames, the book’s complex antihero.
