Auction round-up: Dozens watch on as bidders battle it out for northern Illawarra entertainer

Two bidders have fought it out to secure a home on a large block in Wollongong’s northern suburbs.
A sizeable crowd watched on as the home was subject to some rapid-fire bidding at Saturday’s auction.
The selling agent, Ron Kissell from Ray White Helensburgh gave us the lowdown on the sale.

It also contains a resort-style backyard with pool, spa, lush lawns and low maintenance gardens; separate rear workshop/studio; and is a short walk to schools, shops, cafes and sporting fields.
The result: The home was sold for $1.712 million under the hammer.
According to Cotality, currently the median sales price of houses in Helensburgh is $1.265 million.
What made the property special?: The home is located on a good-sized block, which appealed to a lot of people. The size of the land was important.
It’s also a good-sized home, but it does need a little work.
Setting the scene at the auction: It took place on-site, and there was a crowd of about 50 people there watching the auction.
There were three registered bidders, two of which were active bidders. The other registered bidder just never really got a chance to [get involved in the bidding].
How did the bidding progress?: Bidding started at $1.4 million. There were about 15-16 bids placed overall on the day.
It was pretty rapid-fire bidding, although the last couple of bids were a little drawn out. It probably went for about 15 minutes all up.
Where is the buyer from, and what are the buyers’ plans?: They’re local, and they’re upsizing. They’re likely going to do some renovations on the home.
