Arnott’s has updated the recipe of one of its most beloved snacks leaving some Australians disappointed with the “sad” change.

The Australian biscuit and snack food company confirmed to 7NEWS.com.au one of the cheeses used in its beloved Cheds crackers had been changed but has assured customers they can continue to enjoy the “same cheesy flavour”.

“From time to time, we need to make updates to our manufacturing processes to ensure we can continue to meet supply for consumers,” a spokesperson from Arnott’s said.

“As part of this, a change has been made to one of the cheeses used in Arnott’s Cheds.

“This change does not impact the taste, texture, quality or overall eating experience, and consumers can continue to enjoy the same cheesy flavour they know and love.”

Cheds have been a staple in Australian homes for decades, cementing their place as a lunchbox and party favourite.

The news of the recipe change has taken many fans by surprise, with social media buzzing as people shared their thoughts and concerns.

Radio host Jacqueline Felgate posted about the Cheds recipe change on Instagram on Monday, drawing a flurry of comments.

According to her most recent post, the iconic dark blue and yellow packaging, which previously stated “with real pecorino cheese”, now appears to read “made with real cheese”.

“I KNEW THEY TASTED DIFFERENT,” commented Brooke Warne, the daughter of late cricketer Shane Warne.

“Companies always changing things to save $$! So sad!” another user said.

“OMG Nooooooo,” one fan added.

But amidst the worried Cheds-lovers, others took the opportunity to reflect on fond memories associated with the iconic biscuits.

“Cheds are the best!!! Beautiful memories of my Nan & Pop sharing a long neck Melbourne Bitter and some Cheds every night,” one person shared.
