Brisbane-based chain Wing Fix shuts amid ‘unprecedented economic times’

A popular American-style wing and burger chain has shut its doors, with the owners citing food costs and high interest rates as the reason behind the shock closure.

Wing Fix shut its Brisbane venues in Newmarket and Coorparoo on November 13 as the owners thanked customers for their support.

“That’s a wrap, Brisbane,” owners Peter and Ross Jacobi posted to social media.

“Thanks for the memories and all of the wing love over the past seven years.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure and an honour dishing up your Wing Fixes”

The owners had earlier posted their intentions to shut, calling the move the end of an era.

“Unfortunately, unprecedented economic times and increasing costs have forced us to make the very difficult decision to close our doors,” they said.

“We would like to thank everyone, past and present, customers, staff, landlords, suppliers who have been on this journey with us.

“From starting as a little market stall, to opening our flagship Coorparoo store and weathering the COVID storm, followed closely by unprecedented interest rate rises, it has certainly been a wild ride.

“Thank you, Wing kings and queens. It’s not goodbye for us, it’s just see you later.”

Devoted customers reacted with shock and sadness.

“This is actually devastating,” one person wrote.

“Tough times and never good to see a business close but wishing you all the best,” another person wrote.

Wing Fix is the latest popular Queensland hospitality spot to close its doors.

In September, City Winery Brisbane Pty Ltd entered voluntary liquidation, with six locations — under the banners City Winery and Ardo’s — across the city closing.

CEO Dave Cush blamed the culmination of historical effects of COVID-19 and lockdowns for the business collapse, along with the recent opening of The Star at Queen’s Wharf being the “proverbial final nail”.

In May, top Queensland chef Shannon Kellam’s BCN Events Group bakery and cafe empire closed, affecting seven businesses and dozens of staff.
