Japanese restaurant owner of Toyojiro puts bounty on heads of two customers after bad review

It’s perhaps a lesson in how not to react to a poor review.
A restaurant owner in Japan did not take kindly to being given a bad review by two diners — putting a bounty on their heads.
The owner of Toyojiro immediately offered a reward of 10,000 yen ($105) to anyone who could identify the culprits, posting a photo of the pair, after they left an atrocious one-star review.

“We try not to treat people like you as customers, so it’s fine.
“But you should probably avoid eating out. Someday, someone like you will get screwed.
“I don’t care — just come directly and I’ll deal with you.”
The owner swore to continue searching for them until they returned and posted a good review.
“The only thing he can do is come back, eat again and write a good review with a photo,” he said.
“I told him I won’t forgive him otherwise — not even for the safety of his family.
“If he does that, he’ll be killed right away. This kid is so scared.”
Social media users were quick to criticise the restaurant owner’s aggressive stance, who then reflected and responded.
“I know there are pros and cons,” the owner wrote.
“For an act that went too far I’m reflecting on this. I’m looking forward to reflecting and moving forward. Thank you.”
Toyojiro, a highly rated Jiro-style ramen restaurant in Kyoto, also apologised for the owner’s tirade.
“Our restaurant, which achieved champion status on Japan’s largest ramen site, Ramen Database, just one month after opening, deeply regrets the recent incident we have caused … this incident has resulted in a shameful outcome for us,” it said.
“We are committed to transforming ourselves and becoming a ramen restaurant that is truly supported by customers from around the world.”
