Kmart has recalled a popular product and urged customers to “immediately stop use” after it exploded and caused injuries.

The Anko Glass Flip Pickle Jar — which went viral on TikTok for its innovative way of separating vegetables from brine — was urgently recalled on Wednesday following several serious incidents.

“The affected product can break when used to store certain fruit or vegetables in liquid,” the recall stated.

“Fermented food stored in affected products can build up gas and cause the jar to explode or make the lid difficult to remove.

“Customers should immediately stop using the product and return to the nearest Kmart store for a refund with or without a receipt.”

The affected items include any jars sold between February 15, 2023 and March 3, 2025.

The recall confirmed injuries have occurred and customers who own the product are at risk of serious injury from lacerations if the jar explodes or if the lid breaks while being removed.

The recall comes months after two Kmart customer detailed their near-misses with the exploding jars.

Last year, one woman said “Glass went flying everywhere”, narrowly missing her eye when the jar exploded.

I heard a loud bang and glass flying everywhere, I thought my kitchen light had exploded,” the woman wrote.

“Lucky I had bent my head towards the crisper as the glass could have got my eyes, there were tiny bits of glass plus large pieces.”

A few months later in January, Sally Asplin revealed her Anko jar, which was storing beetroot at the time, exploded in her fridge.

Ms Asplin posted a photo of the shattered jar to a Facebook group named Target, Kmart & BIG W Inspired, Decor & Hacks on Saturday, showing the 620,000 members the aftermath of the explosion.
