Country estate delivers $8.5 million payday for Channel Seven's Mark Ferguson

Veteran news anchor Mark Ferguson is walking away with a significant windfall after selling his sprawling Southern Tablelands estate.
The Channel Seven reporter bought the 777-hectare livestock estate at Crookwell in 2014 for $1.95 million - a fraction of the price the property fetched last month.

Ferguson, 59, and his wife Jayne, a non-executive director of Commonwealth Games Australia, reportedly sold the working sheep and cattle farm for $8.5 million, delivering a significant profit for the couple.
The acreage, which included an 1880s four-bedroom homestead, initially hit the market in September last year with Col Medway and Tim Corcoran at LAWD.

It had an asking price of $8.5 million.
Described on the listing as a "well-managed and highly productive livestock grazing enterprise", the property included a historic 1880s four-bedroom homestead, Hazeldean, which was fully renovated under the Fergusons' ownership.

The couple invested significantly in improvements to pastures, fencing and water supply.
When he put the estate to market last year, Ferguson said it would be tough to say goodbye to the property.
"I've loved the journey over the past 10 years or so, but family priorities change and it's time to hand Hazeldean over to someone new," Ferguson said.

"I've learned so much and met so many good people - it's a great country community.
"I'm very proud of the work we've done on Hazeldean. We've made plenty of improvements, and it's now a very productive block."
The estate's homestead comprises four bedrooms and a country-style eat-in kitchen.

The kitchen has timber cabinetry, a freestanding oven and farmhouse sink placed underneath a window with views of the surrounding paddocks.
The home features polished timber flooring, multiple living areas, fireplaces and a new heating system.

Renovated bathrooms add a contemporary feel with white subway tiles, a frameless shower screen and patterned feature floor tiles.
The homestead was previously retained for use by the Fergusons, as the property's managers lived locally.

With the Ferguson family based out of Sydney, which is 234 kms away, the estate operated under long-term contract management.
For buyers interested in purchasing the property for an investment or as managed country property, Mr Ferguson said they would be in great hands with the existing team.

"The property has been run by a first-rate professional team from day one," he said last year.
"They have done a fantastic job, and I'm sure they'd be keen to stay on if that suited the new owner."
The sprawling property can accommodate 3000 merino ewes and 150 cows.

Facilities include a four-stand shearing shed and steel sheep yards combined with a set of outpost sheep and cattle yards, various storage sheds and machinery sheds.
Hazeldean is also securely watered via 1.3km double frontage to Phils River and 2.7km single frontage to Berrells Creek, plus 25 dams supported by a reticulated water system for livestock.

The $8.5 million sale follows the couple recently celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary.
Since 2014, Ferguson has appeared as a regular weeknight newsreader on Channel Seven, alongside Angela Cox.
