Gird your loins! New York loft from The Devil Wears Prada listed for $14.1 million

The chic apartment featured in the 2006 film The Devil Wears Prada has hit the market for $US8.95 million ($14.1m).

The Soho loft was home to the fictional designer James Holt (played by Daniel Sunjata) and provided the location for Holt’s glamorous party.

In the scene, Runway magazine assistant Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) awkwardly navigates the soiree and meets her love interest Christian Thompson (Simon Baker).

The apartment is currently owned by the founders of The Apartment — the US’s first concept design store, also located on Crosby Street).

According to the listing, the apartment has been featured in many publications and has served as a creative centre.

“The loft was a hub of creativity for decades, hosting events that launched emerging designers, introduced new products and welcomed numerous renowned creators including Michelin star chef, Michel Bras, who prepared a special dinner in Unit 3A’s kitchen for an exclusive event for Food and Wine,” stated the listing.

56 Crosby Street has a uniquely New York history and was originally part of a 1900s department store.

It was then used as a storage warehouse for many decades, before being converted into an apartment complex in 1999.

The pre-war loft features two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a custom-made Boffi kitchen designed by Marc Sadler and a large laundry room with pantry.

The current owners purchased the apartment without the developer’s standard-issue materials and finishes and instead custom-designed it to suit their needs.

“They created a unique floor-to-ceiling masonry encasing for the wood-burning fireplace, and developed an oversized and rounded baseboard along its long brick wall in order to delicately spotlight artwork in each of its six arches,” states the listing.

“The free-floating bookcases and curved metalwork radiator cover that spans the entire width of the living room, are also made-to-measure designs.”

The large living room, also known as the Great Room, features turn-of-the-century brick walls, Corinthian columns and large windows that offer views of historic architecture.

A main suite includes a spacious walk-in closet that even Miranda Priestly would approve of and an ensuite with marble benchtops and bathtub.

The second bedroom includes a large window, walk-in closet and its own ensuite.

The property is ideally located on a quaint cobblestone street, just a short distance from Soho’s best restaurants, cafes and shops.

The sale of the property is being managed by Brown Harris Stevens and Luxury Portfolio International.
