History buff Marc Budge purchased the property in 2022 after moving to the area for work.

Having lived in many historic homes previously, Mr Budge was keen to find the right property to settle in.

"It took me a few years, but I found this one," he said. "Being a historic property buff, I'm very selective."

Mr Budge was drawn to the careful preservation of the property and credited the former owners with lovingly restoring the home.

"I've never seen a better preserved property," he said. "And the only addition to it was that they added a conservatory at the back in a heritage style to match the period of the house."

Since the home was in such impeccable condition, Mr Budge said the only work he had to do was updating the heating and cooling and the creation of a garden.

"I love old gardens so I recreated a Victorian garden to match the period of the house."

Located on a spacious block of 1012-square-metres, the beautiful home features four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a galley-style kitchen, light-filled sunroom and separate living and dining rooms.

Mr Budge said he had many favourite features in the house, but he believed the "warmth" of the property was one of its finest.

"Even though it's fairly big and tall, it's got this warmth, and you walk in and you feel enveloped by the warmth of the wonderful timber on the floor and the ceiling," he said.

"The front doorway has these wonderful lead lights and in the morning the sun rises into that direction so when you walk down that corner it's a blaze with sunshine."

Having only been sold four times since it was built, the property is now looking for its custodians, a term Mr Budge himself identifies with.

"I'm the sort of person that believes I'm only a custodian for what I have," he said. "As long as I leave the house in as good or better shape than when I started, I've done my job."

"I see it as preservation."

Mr Budge is about to embark on his next adventure, this time to Tasmania, where he has secured another period home.

However, Realwa will always be a special place for him.

"I've had lots of historic properties in my life, but this is one of the better ones."
