The sale of the property is being managed by agents Jock Langley and Gaby Carr of Abercrombys.
Acknowledging the historical significance of the sale, the listing states it is "so clearly extraordinary that even volumes of praise could never quite do it justice."

The property was originally built by Edward Woods circa 1886 and named 'Rahiri', before British American Tobacco director William Cameron purchased and renamed it two decades later.
Mr Cameron funded the iconic Mt Macedon memorial cross, a 21-meter high war memorial erected in 1935 to honor World War I service people above Mt Macedon. Its purpose was to create jobs during the Great Depression and it is considered Victoria's most significant war memorial outside Melbourne. It serves as a, Mount Macedon Anzac Day Dawn Service site and was rebuilt in 1995 after fire damage
"There's a local rumour that when the trees were growing, the cross used to cast a shadow on the property as if to 'bless it'." said Mr Langley
The main residence has been carefully restored to preserve its original grandeur while incorporating modern amenities.

A sweeping driveway leads to the grand entrance, framed by a spacious verandah and a conservatory that offers sweeping views of the surrounding gardens.
Inside, the formal rooms are filled with period details such as rich timber walls and ceiling panels and a striking stone fireplace.

The residence is designed for both intimate family living and grand-scale entertaining. The chef's kitchen features an eight-door Aga, stone benches and a fully equipped butler's pantry,
The estate also includes a charming four-bedroom guest cottage, which is surrounded by lush gardens that include an ornamental lake, a historic gazebo, pool, a mod-grass tennis court and even a stone Roman bath.

The botanical gardens themselves are nothing short of extraordinary, featuring the iconic 'Temple of the Winds' designed by Joan Anderson in 1932.
Cameron Lodge is one of the oldest hill station gardens in the country and has been honoured by the National Trust for its historical significance.
Mr Langley saiid of the garden:"It features Sequoias, Canadian Red Woods, Oaks and English varieties sitting amongst the natives. It really is spectacular.
"Victoria is known as the Garden State and these gardens are some of the best in Victoria."
"An important thing with a property with gardens like this is ensuring you have water security which you have with the river running along it."

The property was last sold in May 2011 for $5.4 million and has operated as a bed and breakfast and a venue for weddings, events and filming.
Conveniently located just 45 minutes from Melbourne's CBD and 30 minutes from the airport, the estate is also close to Macedon's shops, restaurants, public transport and schools.
