The Chelmer property in Brisbane is home to Ariarne’s parents Steve, Robyn and younger sister Mia, while the Olympic gold-medallist moved out last December.
“It was a big decision for her, but she still comes back and stays at least one night a week and has an evening meal,” Robyn said.
Steve, co-anchor of the Channel 7 Gold Coast news bulletin, and Robyn, a recruiter at executive recruitment firm Troocoo, designed and built the home with the help of builders Lindona.

“That was the reason that we built the house where we did, because of all of those early mornings for her and also near St Peter’s Lutheran Collage.”
The family moved to Brisbane from Tasmania about 10 years ago and moved into their Chelmer home four-and-a-half years ago. The Hamptons-style property is on a 445sqm block and spans two-storeys.
“It’s the third house we built,” Steve said. “We very much built it as a home that would provide us with resort-style living.”
“We created a very much open plan, with a number of living spaces, including a living space downstairs where the kitchen is and then another living space upstairs where the bedrooms are,” he said.
The house has four-bedrooms and two bathrooms, with walk-in wardrobes in three of the bedrooms.
“The biggest demand [daughters] put on you when it comes to building a house is that they want walk-in robes,” Steve said.
The couple’s favourite area to gather has been on the back deck, where they have celebrated many Christmas lunches and dinner parties with friends and family.
“The home has really become a bit of a gathering place for the family and our friends, which has really been fantastic because it’s been such a thrill to be able to provide a home that’s not just for us, but for other people as well,” Steve said.
The deck takes in the swimming pool and gardens, which were designed by Robyn with the help of a landscaper.
“It’s very, very private. It creates a lovely little atmosphere outside without you having to go anywhere, it’s a nice recreational space,” she said.
With the pool a hot topic in this household, it’s no surprise Steve and Ariarne have gone head-to-head in their own backyard more than a few times.
“There was plenty of times that Steve would suggest taking Ariarne on in a lap in our pool and because it’s smaller than what she would normally swim in, he would get a head start and by about four strokes he’d declare himself the winner,” Robyn said.
“When we’re in the pool, we quite often do underwater races to the other end and all those sorts of things. It’s provided a great entertainment,” Steve added.
The family are now selling up to downsize and will be looking between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
“It’ll be a bit of a sad day when we leave it, but it’ll be nice to be able to pass it on to another family,” said Robyn.
They hope to head to the Paris Olympics in July, once Ariarne qualifies.
“It’s very exciting for our family,” Robyn said.
The property is listed through Ann-Karyn Fraser of Place New Farm.
She said the property’s location and school catchment was attracting a mix of young families as well as empty nesters looking for low-maintenance living.
