Qantas is increasing the price of fees customers incur when they make changes to their bookings or cancel their flights.

Change and cancellation fees for domestic flights will increase from $99 to $119 from October 9.

The charges will apply when a customer changes their flight, updates their name or cancels their ticket.

The customer may also incur a fare difference if the new flight they book is more expensive than the previous flight.

Qantas defended the changes, saying it was the first time fees have increased since 2017.

It said the increase of $20 was below the inflation rate between 2017 and 2024.

Qantas said when the company cancels a flight, customers are automatically booked another service as well as offered a refund or flight credit.

The airline recorded a post-tax profit of $1.25 billion in the 2024 financial year, a 28 per cent drop from the previous year.
