The date is confirmed – Rick Stein’s Australian metro debut to prove an early Christmas present.

The amiable British chef with a penchant for linen and a decent glass (or three) of pinot or sauvignon blanc will open the doors to his anticipated Sydney diner on December 1.

Set above the sands of Coogee and informing the multimillion-dollar renovation of the InterContinental Hotel, Rick Stein At Coogee will prove a local flagship for the Brit and his wife, Sarah, who also operate regional NSW restaurants at Bannisters by the Sea in Mollymook and Bannisters Port Stephens.

“Sydney’s Coogee Beach is the perfect location for our flagship Australian restaurant,” Stein said.

“It’s relaxed yet sophisticated, with that incredible connection to the ocean that has always inspired my cooking. For us, this feels like coming home.”

The inaugural menu – as overseen by head chef Colin Chun (W Tapei) – will celebrate local and seasonal seafood, across a space that works to casual and more refined dining and with an adjoining bar.
