Two people — including a young child — were taken to hospital after a Qantas flight experienced bad turbulence.

Flight QF528 from Sydney experienced turbulence on the descent into Brisbane on Wednesday.

A woman in her 40s and a child under the age of 10 suffered bruising and lacerations.

A third person who was injured on the journey refused treatment.

It’s understood the injured passengers were not wearing seatbelts despite the seatbelt sign being switched on five minutes before the turbulence began.

A Qantas spokesperson confirmed the plane landed safely but acknowledged it would have been “unsettling” for those onboard the plane.

“Our pilots and cabin crew are highly trained to manage a range of onboard events, including turbulence events, but we know this would have been very unsettling, and we thank customers for their co-operation,” the spokesperson said.
