There is no need for panic or mass changes to the NSW side for the Origin decider despite the disappointing loss in game two.

A number of things didn’t go the Blues’ way, many of them outside their control, and they finished the game the stronger side.

I will give credit where credit is due and Queensland were good – but only for around 30 minutes.

NSW still could have snatched it had Zac Lomax brought his kicking boots to Perth.

A lot has been said about referee Ashley Klein’s performance and you’d have to say it was average at best.

How you can have one team handed nine straight penalties before the arm goes up the other way is beyond me.

That weight of possession in the first half was always going to have an impact, especially at Origin level where your lungs are screaming for mercy every second of the way.

NSW coach Laurie Daley bit his tongue after the game, not wanting to come across as a sore loser.

But take it from me, the Blues camp are absolutely ropeable over Klein’s display and believe it cost them any chance of winning.

They didn’t expect any favours but to not receive a penalty for the first 45 minutes was unbelievable.

I know one thing for certain - Klein should not referee the decider despite it pointing that way.

The younger Adam Gee needs to be given the whistle to ensure the game is fast, open and without controversy.

He handled the 2023 grand final and won praise from both teams, fans and commentators – a rare trifecta indeed.

As for for the NSW side, I suspect Daley will go with the same team as long as injuries and suspension don’t strike.

Personally, I’d like to see Souths’ Keaon Koloamatangi brought in for Stefano Utoikamanu and would not be against Api Koroisau coming off the bench if Reece Robson can’t go the full 80.

Either way, what a game we’re in for.
