ABC 7.30 banned from Barnaby Joyce’s home: ‘Never again’

Barnaby Joyce’s wife Vikki Campion has “banned” ABC 7.30 from their property, calling Sarah Ferguson a “sanctimonious host” after Mr Joyce’s viral TV appearance in which he yelled at his dog.

Ms Campion took to Substack on Wednesday to share her thoughts on the controversial moment.

“Never again. ABC 7.30 is banned from my property,” she said.

“Sorry we aren’t a television studio; we are a working farm, and this is what it sounds like,” she wrote.

“What viewers and a sanctimonious host missed on Monday night was a mostly-black dog, barking into the pitch-black night at a passing vehicle she found suspicious.”

The former media staffer said “Ferguson told (Mr Joyce) not to worry about the dog, focus on her question” and shared her frustration with “Sydney media”.

“The media are always talking about ‘bridging the divide’” but as soon as they have a clear line of sight to someone on the other side of the creek, they spit on them,” Ms Campion said.

“The ABC constantly complains about One Nation refusing to take part in their interviews.”

Ms Campion highlighted the difficulties involved in connecting to Zoom interviews from a farm, recounting seven years of dealing with media requests, limited power, lighting issues and background noise.

“Once, a Sydney-based television producer actually asked me if I could stop the cicadas in the bush around us from chirping,” she said.

“We are not in a studio. We don’t have a team fussing around us.

“We are on a farm, doing our best to appease the media, where if you don’t do the interview you are accused of ‘hiding’ from transparency and if you do the interview, you are smashed for yelling at a dog at the end of the place to sit down.”

Mr Joyce’s interview with Ferguson on Monday took a bizarre turn when he turned to the side to shout at his dog while answering a question about Pauline Hanson’s leadership direction.

The One Nation politician defended his actions and said he was distracted by his border staffy, but the moment didn’t pass without animal activists condemning his actions.

Mr Joyce later acknowledged he “verbally assaulted the dog”, which he was “incredibly sorry for”.

Ms Campion addressed the controversy and said “have these people ever met a working dog?”

“Apparently, the same people who believe in animal rights are suggesting that we, who gave a dog a home, should send her to be put down rather than have a foghorn farmer yell at her when she is down the paddock,” she wrote.

“If they think ‘Barnaby Joyce yells at dog’ is bad, they should have seen behind the scenes over the past decade where it’s been Barnaby Joyce yells at tripod/light/phone while setting up one of these interviews.”

The Substack post received 14 likes and a comment from Ms Campion’s father commending her for “banning the commies’ comms unity from her home”.

“The first thing One Nation should do in the communication portfolio once in office is take Alinsky’s Bolshevik Collective off the taxpayers’ teat.”
