Lyons electorate guide: Federal election 2025 candidates, results and margin

Lyons is Tasmania’s most marginal seat and is one that has to be won by the Liberals for them to return to power after the 2025 election — but they’ll have to contend with a popular State politician.
The seat of Lyons is the largest in the State and is situated in Tasmania’s central eastern area, just north of Hobart. It goes up and around Launceston, stopping short of the north coast.
It has been won by Labor at every election but one since 1993 when Eric Hutchinson won the seat in 2013.

On the Federal level in 2022 Lyons, like Tasmania as a whole, bucked the national trend and swung towards the Liberal party with a sizeable swing of 4.3 per cent.
Liberal candidate Susie Bower achieved the swing in 2022 and is now contesting the seat yet again in 2025, hoping to replicate a swing in her favour.
The seat is held on a margin of just 0.9 per cent, meaning it is very vulnerable for Labor.
In Labor’s favour is their candidate Ms White.
Despite not taking her party to victory on the State level in her two attempts, she maintained strong support in her State seat of Lyons, topping the vote in the past two elections through Tasmania’s unique Hare-Clark electoral system.
Regardless of whether Ms Bower or Ms White wins the seat, they will become the first female to represent the seat of Lyons since it was formed in 1946.
