Tangney electorate guide: Federal election 2025 candidates, results and margin

Tangney is Labor’s most marginal seat in Western Australia with a margin of just 2.8 per cent and one which is being closely targeted by the Liberal party this election.
The seat is in Perth’s southern suburbs and includes parts of the City of Canning, Cockburn, Gosnells and Melville.
Tangney was won by first term MP and former dolphin trainer Sam Lim in 2022 with a somewhat unexpected result for the Labor party.

It was the first time the Liberal two party preferred vote in Tangney dropped below 55 per cent since 1983 where the party last lost the seat to Labor.
The seat’s redistribution boosts Labor’s margin by 0.4 per cent as the seat gains suburbs to the west and south west but loses some to the north east.
Looking to win the seat back is IT businessman Howard Ong who has received the endorsement of former Prime Minister John Howard who visited the seat to speak to the party faithful.
Both parties have pulled out no stops for the seat with both Anthony Albanese and Peter Dutton visiting to campaign with their respective candidates.
The seat has a relatively large Chinese diaspora, with 16.5 per cent saying they have Chinese ancestry, almost four times the rate of Western Australia.
It also has a larger than average Malaysian, Indian and Singaporean population.
