Federal election 2025: Peter Dutton slams Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as a ‘liar who can’t be trusted’

Opposition leader Peter Dutton has torn down Prime Minister Anthony Albanese as a “liar who can’t be trusted” in his most blistering sledge of the campaign yet.
The Liberal leader accused the Labor leader of being a “weak” and “deceptive” leader who had nothing to show for his last three years of government.
Speaking in Melbourne’s Labor-held seat of Aston on Thursday, Mr Dutton said the PM has lied about policy, costings, US relations, and a potential Labor-Greens partnership.

“The Prime Minister lied about falling off the stage for some reason. I mean it was on camera, it’s quite amazing.
“Anthony Albanese is out there telling people that he won’t form a government with the Greens. People know he’s lying about that.
“The Prime Minister has been lying about the Medicare campaign.
“You can’t trust this Prime Minister with anything that he says.”
Mr Dutton’s bruising remarks came after a string of attacks by his deputy Sussan Ley also unleashed at the Aston event.
“This is a prime minister who tells lies. At least (Greens leader) Adam Bandt has told the truth, in that Coalition (Labor-Greens), has told the truth,” she said.
“He lies about $275 dollars deductions to your power bills. He lies about falling off the stage.
“Australians can see straight through him.”
Mr Dutton visited a laser cutting and welding factory in the suburb of Bayswater on Thursday to spruik his gas plan, alongside Ms Ley, Victorian Senator Sarah Henderson and local Aston Liberal candidate Manny Cicchiello.
It comes after Mr Dutton was in Queensland this morning visiting his father, who had a heart-attack just an hours before the first leaders’ debate on Tuesday.
Mr Cicchiello asked Mr Dutton when he arrived how “Mr Dutton senior” was going, to which he responded he was good.
It’s understood the Liberal leader attended a fundraiser in Sydney on Wednesday night and visited his father in hospital on Thursday morning before travelling south to Melbourne.
Mr Dutton said his father was recovering and hoped he would be discharged from hospital soon.
Mr Dutton is expected to travel to Perth this evening to give an address at The West Australian’s Leadership Matters breakfast conference series on Friday morning.
Mr Dutton said the election on May 3 was be a “sliding doors moment” for WA, and said declaring a Coalition government would prioritise approvals for WA project while Labor would delay them.
He referenced environment minister Tanya Plibersek’s repeated delaying of a decision over the North West Shelf project off WA’s Pilbara coast.
