Former President Donald Trump has confirmed he will offer X owner Elon Musk a position if re-elected.

The promise of a job offer comes after the two spoke for over two hours on the social media platform when Trump returned to X.

During the highly anticipated interview, which started late due to an alleged attack on X, Musk told Trump he would be interested in taking on a position with the former President’s new administration is elected.

“I mean, I think it would be great to just have a government efficiency commission that takes a look at these things and just ensures that the taxpayer’s hard-earned money is spent in a good way,” Musk said.

“And I’d be happy to help out on such a commission,” Musk said.

“I’d love it for you. You’re the greatest cutter,” Trump said, praising the billionaire for firing Tesla workers who went on strike.

On Tuesday, Trump confirmed he would offer the Tesla and SpaceX CEO a cabinet position or an advisory role in his administration if he defeats Harris this fall, and if Musk “would do it.”

But Trump also said he would consider getting rid of a $US7,500 ($11,000) tax credit for certain new electric vehicles, which might make Musk unhappy since Tesla sells EVs.

“Tax credits and tax incentives are not generally a very good thing,” Trump told Reuters after a campaign event in York, Pennsylvania
