One Nation support soars in Queensland, NSW and WA with Pauline Hanson top PM choice up north

Pauline Hanson’s One Nation has overtaken Labor’s popularity in New South Wales and Queensland and trails by a single point in WA and South Australia, new polling has revealed.

According to Newspoll, a total of 30 per cent of Australians would vote for the rising minor party if a Federal election was held today, compared to 29 per cent for Labor and the Coalition on 19 per cent.

When broken down by State, One Nation’s support was strongest in Queensland, where 36 per cent of those surveyed said they would vote for the party, compared with 25 per cent for Labor.

In NSW, One Nation also edged ahead, with 31 per cent support compared with Labor’s 30 per cent.

Western Australia was more evenly matched, with 30 per cent backing Labor and 29 per cent supporting One Nation.

The quarterly analysis of Newspoll surveys, conducted between July 13 and September 18 among 4967 voters, found Labor’s primary vote in Queensland had plunged from 30 per cent in the April-June period to 25 per cent over the past three months.

Ms Hanson also recorded a net approval rating of plus-14 in her home State and was the preferred prime minister over Anthony Albanese in Queensland, 52 per cent to 48 per cent.

The One Nation leader recorded her lowest approval among voters in Victoria.

Mr Albanese’s net approval rating has also fallen sharply, with the latest Newspoll figures showing a significant decline compared with the same period last year.

His net approval rating in Queensland averaged minus-38 over the past three months — a 29-point fall compared with Newspolls conducted between July and September last year.

Nationally, Mr Albanese’s net approval rating was down 21 points compared with the same period last year.
