US President Donald Trump has claimed that his popularity has surged significantly since the Jeffrey Epstein investigation was thrust back into public attention, despite polls saying otherwise.

According to a new poll cited by the Washington Post, he has lost support from Americans on issues where he was once viewed most favourably.

During the election, Mr Trump’s tough stance on immigration resonated with voters who viewed the southern border as out of control and held the Biden Administration responsible for a spike in undocumented migration.

But a recent Gallup poll show his approval on immigration has eroded, with only 30 per cent of Americans saying they want a reduction in immigration, a drop from 55 per cent in 2024.

Support for adding more border agents, a key provision in the new “big, beautiful bill” Mr Trump signed on July 4, has declined by 17 percent over the past year. Similarly, backing for the mass deportation of all undocumented immigrants has fallen by nine points, now standing at 38 per cent.

Despite polling data indicating a decline in public support, Mr Trump has asserted his popularity has continued climbing following the a renewed focus on the Epstein investigation.

“My Poll Numbers within the Republican Party, and MAGA, have gone up, significantly, since the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax was exposed by the Radical Left Democrats and, just plain ‘troublemakers’,” Mr Trump wrote on his Truth Social account on Sunday (local time).

“They have hit 90%, 92%, 93%, and 95%, in various polls, and are all Republican Party records. The General Election numbers are my highest, EVER! People like Strong Borders, and all of the many other things I have done. GOD BLESS AMERICA. MAGA!” he wrote.

Mr Trump did not disclose which polls he was referencing, nor did he provide any evidence to support his claim that the Epstein case has contributed to increased support for his presidency.

Epstein, a wealthy financier, was facing federal charges of sex trafficking minors when he died by suicide in jail in 2019. He had pleaded not guilty, and the case was dismissed after his death.

The case returned to headlines last week after the Trump Administration reversed its pledge to release all government-held documents related to Epstein, instead opting to request the unsealing of only selected grand jury transcripts from the federal investigation.

The decision, announced by Attorney General Pam Bondi, comes after mounting criticism from Mr Trump’s supporters over the Administration’s handling of the disclosures, with many demanding transparency and the release of still-secret materials such as flight logs, private communications, and alleged lists of high-profile individuals linked to Epstein’s crimes.

As a result of the growing public scrutiny, Mr Trump and Ms Bondi jointly submitted a motion seeking the release of grand jury testimony related to Epstein, though legal experts note that these documents represent only a small portion of the entire case file.
