Scott Morrison has spent New Year’s Eve partying at Donald Trump’s Florida resort with the US president-elect.

The former Prime Minister posted a photograph of himself and Mr Trump, both wearing tuxedos and bow ties, and their wives Jenny Morrison and Melania Trump to social media on Wednesday afternoon.

“HNY 2025 from Mar-a-Lago,” he wrote.

Mr Trump has been based at the Florida mansion he turned into a members-only club while working on his transition into the presidency.

A string of high-profile visitors, including Amazon boss Jeff Bezos and Apple chief executive Tim Cook have reportedly dined with Mr Trump at Mar-a-Lago, along with Republicans angling for positions in his administration.

The New York Times reported this week Elon Musk has taken up residency in a $2000-a-night cottage on the estate to continue his role as key adviser on policy and personnel to the president-elect.

Mr Morrison met Mr Trump a number of times while he was Prime Minister.

This included a state dinner at the White House in 2019, one of only two Mr Trump hosted during his first term as president.

The pair appeared to have a warm rapport and a small sculpture Mr Morrison gave the president, showing Australian soldier Leslie “Bull” Allen carrying a wounded American, was often seen in photos of Mr Trump’s Oval Office.

Since leaving Parliament, Mr Morrison has taken on roles in an American consultancy firm led by Mr Trump’s former national security adviser and at a US-based security think tank.

In June, The Saturday Paper reported that Mr Morrison was positioning himself to play an informal envoy role in the event Mr Trump was elected.

But in the immediate wake of the presidential election, the former Prime Minister backed in Kevin Rudd as Australia’s ambassador to the US despite his having made disparaging comments about Mr Trump previously.

It is understood Mr Morrison was in Florida over new year’s in a private capacity.
