Italy: Influencer Laura Härtig dies after bike split in two in head-on crash in Dolomites during honeymoon

A famous German cyclist and influencer has died after she was critically injured in a horrific bike crash while on her honeymoon in Italy.

Laura Viktoria Härtig, 30, was cycling in the Dolomites when her racing bike collided head-on with a motorbike as she rode around a bend in the road on June 23.

Ms Härtig was critically injured on impact as the force of the crash snapped her bike in two, The Sun reports.

Emergency services rushed to the scene where they resuscitated Ms Härtig before airlifting her to San Maurizio Hospital in Bolzano.

The driver of the KTM motorcycle, Italian alpine ski racer Peter Runggaldier, 59, suffered serious fractures and was airlifted to a hospital in Trento where he was treated in a stable condition.

About two weeks later on July 9, Ms Härtig was transferred to Murnau clinic in her hometown of Bavaria for specialist care.

Despite medical professional’s 19-day fight to save her life, the newlywed succumbed to her injuries and died in hospital on July 13.

Ms Härtig was visiting the mountainous Italian hotspot with her husband, Tilman, for their honeymoon celebrations just days after they tied the knot in South Tryol.

She was known on social media for sharing her outdoor adventures with her 53,000 Instagram followers.

Days before the horror crash, Ms Härtig shared picturesque footage of the couple on their wedding day against the backdrop of the alpine destination.

Mr Runggaldier is assisting local police with their enquiries as they investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.

He has not publicly commented on the incident but has asked for privacy in the wake of Ms Härtig’s death.
