This phrase boarded the internet’s wild merry-go-round of viral sound bites and landed a highly coveted spot in the book of 2025 tween colloquialisms.
But what does “chopped” and “unc” even mean?

Unlike some internet trends, which have seemingly no meaning, this one actually lends itself to fairly rigid definitions - but you might not like them.
In the TikTok video that started it all, which now has more than 14 million views, @rileyhardwick filmed himself saying the now famous phrase.
“Just found out I’m chopped and also unc,” he said, after attending a high school dance.
“Thank you, TJ for a reminder for me never to chaperone a prom again. Sorry I brought up Danny Phantom.”
Confused users flooded the comments at the time, asking what the terms mean.
“What does unc mean,” one user commented.
“Soooo, no one in these comments want to tell me what “chopped” is?”
TikTok users were quick to grab the sound and add their own videos on top, which started a massive trend that has now infected the language of the youth.
Gatekeep continues to be the internet’s motto which means no one is coming to your aid if you don’t get the joke.
Asking for help in a TikTok comments section is like publicly admitting you don’t know your five times tables.
Rest assured, there is a simple answer.
Chopped means ugly. Unc is short for uncle, but it just means old.
So Mr Hardwick’s crisis was about his looks and vibe - and being humbled by a bunch of high school students.
The meme has even been used politically. The Democrats took the opportunity to use the sound with clips of Donald Trump golfing, poking fun at the US President. Viewers lapped it up.

But the overwhelming majority are using the sound to poke fun at themselves.
