Relationship problems caused by social media are involved in nearly a third of divorce cases, lawyers claim.

“Digital detachment”, “always on their phone” and “online affairs” are more common in marital breakdowns.

UK service divorce-online found 30 per cent of the 1,549 cases it handled from January to August this year cited problems over social media use.

Managing director Mark Keenan said: “It’s clear digital infidelity is no longer just a side issue. . . It is often the main cause of marital breakdown.”
