Newly-minted Brisbane premiership coach Chris Fagan says he doesn’t know if spearhead Joe Daniher is considering retiring in the wake of the club’s grand final triumph.

Channel 7’s Mitch Cleary reported on Friday that the forward, who also played for Essendon, was considering hanging up his boots at the end of the season.

If it was a last hurrah for the 30-year-old, he went out with a bang.

He booted two goals from 16 disposals, also collecting four clearances as the Lions hammered the Swans by 60 points to claim their first flag since the three-peat on Saturday, and vanquish the demons of last season’s narrow loss.

However, Fagan said post-game he had not heard the retirement rumour until the media asked him about it during premiership celebrations.

“Someone mentioned it to me when I got interviewed just after the game and that’s the first I’ve heard of it,” he said.

“So, I’m not going to comment on that. I don’t know whether there’s any truth in that or not.

“I guess if there is you’ll all find out at some point in time, but I certainly don’t know anything about it.”

Daniher kicked his second major late in the final term and was swamped in emotional scenes that brought the retirement debate to the surface.

The tall forward moved to the Lions via trade in 2020 in exchange for a top 10 draft pick, wanting to ply his trade outside of the heartland spotlight.

And throughout his 204 games and 395 goals, Daniher has always remained a private footballer.
