2024 AFL grand final Variety Toyota lunch

Ahead of the hotly anticipated grand final rematch of 1899 between Sydney and Brisbane, revellers have packed in for the big occasion at the 2024 Variety Toyota AFL grand final lunch.

In its 40th year, the Variety Toyota AFL Grand Final Lunch was founded by Variety Life Member Maureen Hafey OAM and her husband, AFL Hall of Fame Legend Tom Hafey.

As a Melbourne institution, the event has raised over $2m for children living with disability, illness, or disadvantage.

Through the ongoing support of Melbourne’s football community, Variety — the Children’s Charity — has changed the lives of thousands of children in need and their families.

Sydney has waited a century and a quarter to avenge their one-point defeat at the hands of Brisbane when both sides crossed paths as South Melbourne and Fitzroy, respectively.

Now, 125 years later, the sides meet again as reborn clubs with new identities, leaving their Melbourne roots behind.

Collingwood sensation and runner-up Brownlow medalist Nick Daicos was among many footballing elite attending the function.

Hawthorn legend Dermott Brereton and Geelong icon Billy Brownless were also present.
