West Coast co-captain Liam Baker will pull on the very first number he wore at the top level when he represents WA in Saturday’s blockbuster AFL Origin clash with Victoria.

Baker has sported the Eagles’ famous No.3 since joining the Eagles ahead of the 2025 season but Greater Western Sydney veteran Stephen Coniglio — who has never worn another number across his 13 years with the Giants — has taken precedence.

Instead, he will sport the No.48 he wore in his first two seasons at Richmond — including the 2019 grand final victory — in the black and gold.

His fellow Eagle Jake Waterman will also return to his very first AFL jumper number for WA, with the forward to don the No.45 he sported during his first season at the level in 2018.

Waterman succeeded Mark LeCras as West Coast’s No.2 in 2019 but Luke Jackson will wear that number for the State, with WA’s captain Patrick Cripps retaining his preferred No.9, which the Fremantle ruckman wears at club level.

Dockers star Shai Bolton will wear No.8 rather than the No.15 he occupies in purple, which is owned by GWS defender Sam Taylor.

Baker switched into the Tigers’ No.7 in 2020 but Rory Lobb, who has worn the number since joining Western Bulldogs from Fremantle in 2023, will wear that guernsey.

Victoria also appear to have used player seniority to grant precedence over jumper numbers, with Geelong veteran Patrick Dangerfield earning his trademark No.35 over up-and-coming Collingwood superstar Nick Daicos, who instead has been granted No.8.
