Caroline Wilson has taken aim at AFL stars for dropping the F-bomb on live TV.

Channel 7 commentator Caroline Wilson has criticised the AFL for failing to take any action after multiple players and a coach dropped the F-word on live TV over the weekend.

Collingwood champion Nick Daicos and coach Craig McRae both swore after the Magpies’ win over Adelaide last Thursday night, while Hawthorn forward Mabior Chol did as well after the Hawks win over the Giants.

However, while the AFL took no action in the days after the incidents, the league did contact both clubs on Tuesday to remind them of their responsibilities when giving interviews to the media.

Daicos dropped the F-bomb immediately after the Magpies’ win over Adelaide when he was asked by Channel 7’s Mitch Cleary what the pre-match message from Daicos’ dad was.

“Go f***ing win,” Daicos said with a laugh as he walked off.

A short time later in the rooms, coach McRae repeated the word.

Given the chance to say whatever he wanted to fans at home, McRae said: “We’re so grateful for the ones who have travelled, the ones who are home celebrating now. We love you. We f***ing love ya.”

Chol then said it three times during his one-field interview after the Hawks’ thrilling win over the GWS Giants on Saturday

Speaking about the incidents on The Agenda Setters on Monday night, Wilson said it was unacceptable to use that language on live TV.

“Since when did it become acceptable to use the F-word on national television after a primetime footy broadcast?” She began.

“I don’t care if people think I’m a wowser after the brilliant performances of Collingwood and Hawthorn over the weekend.

“That was so out of character for Nick Dacos and it hardly felt off the cuff.

“And Craig McRae felt almost deliberate. I don’t want to make light at all or seem glib about the Izak Rankine scandal, but it almost felt like Collingwood had their own f-word theme going into that game.

“And Mabior went with it three times.”

“But most disappointing and amazing to me is that the AFL hasn’t battered an eyelid.

“Surely swearing like that on a national broadcast would have at least prompted a phone call from either head office, or even the Seven Network, reminding McRae, Daicos and Chol that swearing like that is just lowering the standards for everyone.”

Wilson said she wasn’t having a go at the stars for saying the word, but was merely calling out the lack of action from league headquarters.

“I’m not condemning any of them, but it just amazed me It’s the AFL seemed to not even care,” she continued.

“I don’t think we can let it pass by without making a comment because if that’s the sort of standards we’re all working towards now then our standards have dropped.

“Most people (at the AFL) I spoke to today hadn’t even really seemed to know about it, so that’s how nondescript it was.”

Channel 7 commentator Nick Riewoldt noted how the AFL issued multiple fines to players this year for flipping the bird, but did nothing on this.

“If we’re fining people for giving the bird ... like it’s probably in the same ballpark isn’t it?” he said.

Port Adelaide great Kane Cornes said it was a rare misstep by Daicos, who is usually a polished performer in front of the camera.

“It’s the first mistake I’ve ever seen Nick Daicos make so I’m willing to give him a pass mark. It was strange. It was out of character. That guy has not put a foot wrong since the minute (he came into the AFL),” he said.

However, on Tuesday night’s show, Wilson revealed that the league did contact both clubs.

“Both Collingwood and Hawthorn have been spoken to today by the AFL, no fine, but just a comment that this isn’t acceptable and please don’t do it again,” Wilson said.
