Chris Scott accepts new job with club’s major sponsor after AFL finals exit: ‘I am honoured’

Geelong senior coach Chris Scott has been announced as chief of leadership and performance at Morris Finance.

Morris, which is a major sponsor of Geelong, announced the newly created role was being filled by Scott, whose main priority will remain coaching the Cats.

“This new role reflects our commitment to embracing innovation and leadership, ensuring we stay at the forefront of our industry,” Morris said of the appointment.

“Chris’s leadership will enhance our ability to achieve these objectives by providing guidance to the Morris team and our broader stakeholder groups.

Scott is contracted to coach Geelong until at least the end of 2026.

But he says he’s excited to start the new chapter with Morris, alongside his coaching.

“I am honoured to join Morris at a time when our partnership with the Geelong Cats is stronger than ever,” the two-time AFL premiership coach said.

“The values that Morris holds — integrity, ambition, and a commitment to fostering meaningful relationships — are the same values that have driven the Cats’ success on and off the field.

“I look forward to contributing to both Morris and the ongoing success of this remarkable partnership.”

Geelong CEO Steve Hocking says the club welcomes Scott venturing into a new role while he continues to juggle coaching responsibilities.

“It underscores the enduring relationship between Geelong Football Club and Morris, which has only deepened over the past 14 years,” Hocking said.

“Morris has been more than a sponsor; they have been an integral part of our club’s journey, supporting our coaches and players.

“We look forward to many more years of collaboration and shared achievements.”

Nathan Murray, managing director of Morris, said Scott’s appointment was indicative of the organisation’s relationship with the Cats.

“This collaboration has transcended the traditional sponsorship model, evolving into a powerful relationship that reflects our shared commitment to excellence, community, and sustainable success,” he said.

“We have stood by Chris and the Cats through their triumphs and challenges, and we are excited to continue this journey with Chris in his new role.”

Geelong were again a major player in the finals series this year, falling just short of making a third grand final in five years.

The Cats lost a 10-point preliminary final thriller to eventual premiers Brisbane in one of the upsets of September.
