The Collingwood star soared high for a mark that will tough to beat for best of the year.

Jamie Elliott has left his Collingwood teammates slackjawed after taking to the Melbourne skies to produce an epic Mark of the Year, or even decade, contender in the thick of a tense Anzac day classic.

It comes on the same day West Coast’s young phenomenon Harley Reid’s western derby hangar was ratified as a Mark of the Year contender, but Elliott’s efforts against Essendon leave the 19-year-old with work to do.

Midway through the third term of the Anzac Day blockbuster at the MCG, Jordan De Goey pumped the ball into the Magpie’s forward 50, with the club trailing the Bombers by 10 points.

Elliott appeared out of place behind Ben McKay, but it didn’t take long for the tables to turn.

With an uncanny ability to sense a chance at memorable plays, the Collingwood livewire paced out a run-up and launched himself over the 202cm tall McKay, resting his knees on his shoulders as he plucked the ball.

He even rode McKay to a soft landing, leaving teammates in disbelief as the 95,000-strong crowd roared in approval.

To cap off the moment, Elliott wheeled to his right to slot the set shot and reduce the margin to single figures.

The incredible mark almost makes Reid’s efforts against Fremantle redundant, despite the young star coming from five deep to rise above the pack and grab a special mark on the way back down.

He also converted the set shot for his third of three majors in the Eagles’ electric derby victory.
